Define the comparison boundary
Before accepting greener or sustainable as a process description, ask what is being compared and which stages are counted. Extraction time alone excludes pretreatment, solvent recovery, purification, drying and waste handling. Compare equivalent product quality and usable output; otherwise a low-input process producing a different material may not be a meaningful alternative.
Ask for measured inputs and outputs
Relevant evidence can include solvent consumption and recovery, energy, water, recovery of the target constituents and waste streams under stated conditions. The peer-reviewed extraction review describes method trade-offs but does not certify the environmental performance of a commercial facility. Do not translate a laboratory efficiency improvement into a company-wide environmental claim.
Keep uncertainty visible
Record the scale of the comparison, assumptions and data gaps, then ask whether the downstream route still delivers the required material. A process with a shorter extraction stage may shift burdens elsewhere. This encyclopedia does not publish invented carbon savings, market forecasts or factory efficiency figures; quantified claims require traceable measurements and an appropriate assessment method.
